Avocado Prices in China — Live Wholesale & Retail Data

China's avocado trade runs through two poles: the Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit & Vegetable Wholesale Market — the country's largest fruit distribution hub, whose daily bulletin publishes low, high and reference prices per kilogram — and online retail led by JD.com, where imported Hass reaches hundreds of millions of urban consumers.

This page tracks China's live wholesale benchmark from the Jiangnan bulletin and retail prices from JD.com in RMB per kilogram (with an indicative USD conversion), the origin mix from Peruvian and Chilean imports to Yunnan's domestic crop, and the recent trend.

Varieties — Hass & the green trade

China's avocado market is effectively all-Hass at the import grade, with a young domestic industry in Yunnan beginning to supply local fruit. Green-skin varieties have no meaningful presence in the modern trade.

An import-led market

China grows very little avocado commercially — Yunnan's young domestic industry is promising but small — so the market is built on imports. Peruvian and Chilean Hass dominate arrivals through Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou; Kenyan fruit has grown strongly in recent seasons; and Mexican volumes remain selective.

Wholesale, the Jiangnan bulletin is the price of record: its low–high band covers the day's arrival quality, and its reference price (参考价) is the clearing benchmark the rest of the trade negotiates against. Because Jiangnan redistributes nationally, its quotes ripple far beyond Guangdong.

Retail and the consumption curve

Online retail is where China's avocado demand actually lives. JD.com and its peers sell imported Hass in 4-piece boxes and single-fruit listings, normalized here to RMB per kilogram. Retail levels run at roughly double the wholesale reference — a spread that covers cold chain, ripening and platform economics.

Consumption is concentrated in first- and second-tier cities, and it is growing fast from a small base — the classic emerging-market avocado curve. For sellers, China rewards brands and stable supply programs over spot trading; for buyers, the Jiangnan reference is the import-parity anchor.

Data sources & methodology

How these prices are collected

Wholesale rows are scanned daily from the Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit & Vegetable Wholesale Market bulletin (jnmarket.net), whose high / low / reference prices are already RMB per kilogram. Retail rows are collected from JD.com fresh-produce avocado listings and normalized to RMB per kilogram, using declared pack weights where available and an average fruit weight of ≈180 g otherwise.

Each scan date is rebuilt idempotently and older history is preserved. The USD conversion shown alongside is indicative at a fixed rate. When the current day's bulletin is not yet published, the most recent update is shown and dated accordingly.

Prices are informational market intelligence in CNY, not financial or trading advice. Averages are recomputed regularly from the latest scanned market data and are quoted per kilogram.
